Sophia Victor: Public Record

Portraits of Yasmeen and Abdullah Majid. Abdullah and Yasmeen met while serving in the Black Panther Party’s Corona, Queens chapter in the 1970’s. Years after, Yasmeen became an advocate for US held political prisoners, particularly individuals who were jailed for their activism in the black liberation movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Abdullah was one of two political prisoners that she connected to and whose cases she took on.  On April 3, 2016, Abdullah died in prison at the age of 66 after being politically incarcerated for 33 years. The artist continues to work closely with Yasmeen in her advocacy for political prisoners.
